I’ve read numerous places that I should separate my top level home page from my blog. For tracking, search engine optimization, other. It also makes sense as I might want to put more than just the blog on the home page. For instance, the Morganthall Family Reunion notice will eventually be seen only on the home page. It also just feels more organized.
I did not implement the common blog/2009/09/11/big-long-title.html pattern. Maybe search engines liked it in the past, but that style always made me think someone was getting paid per directory. For a casual blogger, having everything at one level makes for cleaner urls. Someday I may need more organization, but I don’t see the value in chopping things up by date.
